Birth is an happy accident resulted from an experiment on some silversmith techniques I wanted to explore. During the strictly planned process of the experiment I experienced unexpected challenge that resulted in design features that are both surprising and welcoming. After careful study of the resulting designs I decided to apply on them the technique of natural coloring on fine silver with sulfates such as sulfuric acid and potassium alum. Sulfuric acid application resulted in blackened surface and potassium alum resulted in whitened surface. The oval shape of the designs, the matte black, white or silver interiors contrasting from the mirror surface of the exteriors plus the natural and uneven cracks on the openings all contributed to the appearance of eggs recently hatched, a reminder of lives just born.
Fine silver, sterling silver and sulfates for surface treatment. Unique pieces.
